The market is flooded with camping rucksacks and other rucksacks and every day it seems like it would be possible to introduce a new one even better than the day before! Well, it is not all the truth but close enough. So which one to choose? There will be a few things to go through before choosing the pack to make sure you get the right one.
Choosing the right camping rucksack can only be done thinking of what you are going to do – is it a 1-2 day trip or 3 weeks, are you into cooking your own meals, what is the weather going to be like etc. Go through all the aspects but be critical otherwise you will end up with not just buying a camping rucksack but a large container to fit everything into.
Camping rucksacks should be able to hold all the essential items needed for a hassle free-camping trip. Flexibility in space and equal weight distribution are the key points of good camping rucksack. Looking at the newer models of camping rucksacks you will find that they are more or less all light weight and reliable but of course you can always be a gear freak.
Almost all the camping backpacks have two compartments along with zippered and mesh pockets. Capacity and pack weight vary with each product. Torso range of most camping backpacks is between fourteen and twenty-four inches. You will almost always find hip belt fits, compression straps, and sternum strap in most camping rucksacks. Removable side pockets and load-stabilizer straps are found in some models which can be very handy. There are both frame and frameless camping rucksack and for the longer hiking with more weight in your pack, you would probably be better of with at camping rucksack with a frame.
There are camping rucksacks with internal frames and external frames and today they are all made of light weight material but again you can be a gear freak and wanting the lightest camping rucksack on the market, just remember, you pay lots of money for the last grams you do not want. A modern internal-frame camping backpack is highly durable and avoids most of the problems associated with backpacks. The camping rucksacks of today are a clever combination of foam, plastic, and aluminum.
Framework, shoulder straps, hip belt, back panel, materials used, and construction are some of the elements to be carefully noted before buying a camping rucksack. Make sure that the framework transfers weight to the hip using V-shaped stays and the pack should still be flexible and make you feel like you can move around. A hard frame sheet strengthens the camping rucksack and prevents sharp items from poking your back but if your pack is loaded the right way you might be able to live with out and instead loose some weight to carry.
The hip belt is a crucial part in a camping rucksack, because all the weight is placed on the hip belt. It should have enough stiffness to support the pack without sagging. Soft hip belts wear out easy and fast the weight will be transfered to the hip which which can make you tired faster. A to hard hip belt can cause bruises so you really have to be aware and do you see or feel a bruise starting make sure to tape the area if you can not leave off the pack. The best solution would be to choose a hip belt that compresses slowly. A sweaty back is something that all campers like to avoid while using camping rucksacks because it is sticky and because it can easily cause rashes. Certain camping rucksacks come with firm, compression-molded back panels with channels that allow airflow which can help a bit but doesn’t always do that much.
Nothing will compare to heading off to visit the nature, with nothing but you, lots of trees and maybe a nice campfire (Watch out that you want start a fire). I find this experience with the nature, woods, mountains etc. as one of the best if not THE best way to experience total peace and quiet. For some people it is even like meditation. To make sure that day, weekend or week will be a pleasure all the way make sure to do some planning ahead of time so nothing is forgotten at home.
Many things has to be taken into consideration before you go camping and especially before you go out to buy your new camping rucksack. First of all check out what sort of camping gear you already have. You might just want to get away but there is no fun in getting away with out your sleeping bag and nothing to lay on if it starts to rain. No need to be a gear freak and start out buying all the gear you can find because there are plenty of sites on the Internet which can help out with this once you know what you need.
It can be a bit more difficult to know what you need if you are new to camping. You almost always need a tent. You can chance the weather, but that’s only for the real hard once! Perhaps if you’re going to be close to some well protected caves you can get away without a tent, but otherwise you’ll be very glad to have a tent when that thunderstorm rolls in. Persistent insects and wildlife are also less of a problem when you are in a tent.
If you’re planning on cooking your own food over the campfire, a good campfire grill makes life much easier. If there are fire restrictions or there is no wood available to make a campfire, then bring along a camping stove. You will also need some basic cooking utensils, including some pans. A good idea is never to use your best utensils out of the kitchen, they inevitably get burnt, melted, lost or will almost be impossible to clean.
At night time a strong torch with fresh batteries can help if the stars are not sufficient enough. If you need to go wandering in the night, you’ll want to be able to see where you step and what is around you. For sleeping, make sure your sleeping bag is suitable for the conditions you’ll be encountering. If you have a lightweight summer bag and it starts to snow, you won’t get much sleep because you’ll be shivering the whole night and wrapping your self in an emergency blanket is a bad idea to keep warm because it will get very wet inside from the condense.
If you’re really planning to get away from everything, to the point that you have no car or nowhere to store your gear then you will diffently need a camping rucksack to carry everything with you. Modern designs these days are amazing, with all sorts of features to make carrying a pack more comfortable. You can find packs suitable for almost anything you might plan to do, including strolling round a local park right through to heavy trekking in the wilderness for weeks. Take the time to think about what you need to use the backpack for, perhaps even visit a camping store and chat to the salesperson. Spending some time and making the right choice you will not regret in the long run. Remember to try out your new bought backpack to make sure you know how it feels like and get to know if, or where you do get sore or bruised. You never get bruised from a well fitted backpack.
One real important thing is to travel light when you’re going camping. You don’t want to have to much stuff in your camping rucksack that you can’t even lift! It’s easy to get carried away and buy way too many things and spend all your hard earned money. A lot of the equipment out there will not make your visit back to mother nature better but for sure it will make you carry more and your back hurting. Take the time to think about the sort of camping you want to do, where you’re likely to go, what the weather conditions will probably be, and then choose carefully. By doing that, you’ll get the maximum use out of whatever camping gear you buy, and that way you will get great value for money and the experience will be that much better. Also remember if it is your first camping visit then you will be in a learning process and next time you will have much more knowledge to go along with.
