Author: Nothing will compare to heading off to visit the nature, with nothing but you, lots of trees and maybe a nice campfire (Watch out that you want start a fire). I find this experience with the nature, woods, mountains etc. as one of the best if not THE best way to experience total peace and quiet. For some people it is even like meditation. To make sure that day, weekend or week will be a pleasure all the way make sure to do some planning ahead of time so nothing is forgotten at home.
Many things has to be taken into consideration before you go camping and especially before you go out to buy your new camping rucksack. First of all check out what sort of camping gear you already have. You might just want to get away but there is no fun in getting away with out your sleeping bag and nothing to lay on if it starts to rain. No need to be a gear freak and start out buying all the gear you can find because there are plenty of sites on the Internet which can help out with this once you know what you need.
It can be a bit more difficult to know what you need if you are new to camping. You almost always need a tent. You can chance the weather, but that’s only for the real hard once! Perhaps if you’re going to be close to some well protected caves you can get away without a tent, but otherwise you’ll be very glad to have a tent when that thunderstorm rolls in. Persistent insects and wildlife are also less of a problem when you are in a tent.
If you’re planning on cooking your own food over the campfire, a good campfire grill makes life much easier. If there are fire restrictions or there is no wood available to make a campfire, then bring along a camping stove. You will also need some basic cooking utensils, including some pans. A good idea is never to use your best utensils out of the kitchen, they inevitably get burnt, melted, lost or will almost be impossible to clean.
At night time a strong torch with fresh batteries can help if the stars are not sufficient enough. If you need to go wandering in the night, you’ll want to be able to see where you step and what is around you. For sleeping, make sure your sleeping bag is suitable for the conditions you’ll be encountering. If you have a lightweight summer bag and it starts to snow, you won’t get much sleep because you’ll be shivering the whole night and wrapping your self in an emergency blanket is a bad idea to keep warm because it will get very wet inside from the condense.
If you’re really planning to get away from everything, to the point that you have no car or nowhere to store your gear then you will diffently need a camping rucksack to carry everything with you. Modern designs these days are amazing, with all sorts of features to make carrying a pack more comfortable. You can find packs suitable for almost anything you might plan to do, including strolling round a local park right through to heavy trekking in the wilderness for weeks. Take the time to think about what you need to use the backpack for, perhaps even visit a camping store and chat to the salesperson. Spending some time and making the right choice you will not regret in the long run. Remember to try out your new bought backpack to make sure you know how it feels like and get to know if, or where you do get sore or bruised. You never get bruised from a well fitted backpack.
One real important thing is to travel light when you’re going camping. You don’t want to have to much stuff in your camping rucksack that you can’t even lift! It’s easy to get carried away and buy way too many things and spend all your hard earned money. A lot of the equipment out there will not make your visit back to mother nature better but for sure it will make you carry more and your back hurting. Take the time to think about the sort of camping you want to do, where you’re likely to go, what the weather conditions will probably be, and then choose carefully. By doing that, you’ll get the maximum use out of whatever camping gear you buy, and that way you will get great value for money and the experience will be that much better. Also remember if it is your first camping visit then you will be in a learning process and next time you will have much more knowledge to go along with.
